Special providence in the fall of a sparrow

Special providence in the fall of a sparrow

Dear self,

You are jazzed because you just saw a good local production with your friends. And I know you miss the lights and the fin but you don’t miss the drama of drama.

So remember this when you’re thinking “oh I could do running crew and doctorate school”. No. No you can not.
Don’t make me beat you up. That would be weird.

Let that time go. The theatre is not going anywhere, but you are. If you choose to come back to it, it will still be there.

Love,
Yourself

And just like that,

And just like that,

The show was done and loaded out, and the wrap party done.

I think we put on four really solid performances… And we peaked on Saturday night. That show was golden. Not error-free, but golden. The cast was amazing and I feel like I really tapped into the rhythm of the show.

I’m so proud of having tamed this beast.

And now back to regular life.

It’s Max Bialystock’s Latest Show: Will it flop or will it go?

It’s show week at last!!! Naturally I am coming down with a cold from basically working two jobs for the past two weeks (two full-time jobs, this week :P ).

I am very proud of this production.

Stage and props crews and the ASMs Vince and Sally (And Bob V heading up the stage crew on SR) have these lightning fast changes to accomplish – and they’re not small, either. It’s very tricky to get these pieces broken down and moved in a very short time but they’re doing it. It’s just awesome. The fly guys at the Imperial are doing an incredible job with a challenging fly schedule especially act 2 scene 4. Makeup and hair are hitting home runs. Brenda and her costume team have gone so far above and beyond my wildest dreams for this show that they’re somewhere in orbit with the ISS.

And zee actors. Jenn did some amazing choreography as did Kristi on I Wanna Be A Producer, which they are totally delivering. This is the funniest script I’ve ever read. I love Mel Brooks movies, they make me laugh like no other. But every member if this cast is bringing their A game every night to this material, it’s just a delight to watch unfold.

It’s making it tough sometimes to call as I get totally sucked in to it. Franz on the rooftop for instance, and Roger Debris’ apartment. It’s just so frickin comical!!!

I’m so glad to be finally bringing it before audiences. And I can’t believe it’s going to be over in 2 short days.

I am so busy right now.

I am so busy right now.

It’s under three weeks to the show.  My life is the theatre.  Miles to go before we sleep.

But let me tell you, the show is FABULOUS already.  I can’t wait to see the whole thing come together.  It’s so hilarious.  Take the funniest people I know and put them in a musical by Mel Brooks?  And throw in Nazis?  HILARIOUS.

The rehearsal grind

The rehearsal grind

It’s a lot of work to put together a show.  It’s a crazy amount of work to put together a really big show.  I find I’m really starting to enjoy the down time, quiet hours to catch up on TV and to relax with the lads.  It’s not that I want to be a hermit, I just need time to wind my brain down.

One show done!

One show done!

We wrapped up Frost/Nixon on Saturday.

It was a good run.  We had some mistakes happening on Friday on Stage Right, but they were fixed on Saturday.  Saturday night’s show was a production I’m really proud of, actually.  The load-out was really easy, over pretty much before I knew it.

It was a really good show of a really great script.  I’m so glad to have been a part of this production.

And I bought a company shirt with this season’s shows! :)  My shirt from last season’s gotten all stretched out.

I stayed at the wrap party pretty late.  I had the key to lock up, and Stephen went home.  I don’t think I have ever been at a wrap party later than Bob and Stephen.  In fact, I know I haven’t.  I can’t believe I managed to stay up that late.

Today I did a lot of sleeping, not surprisingly.  Giles had the chaise, Dalton took the wing chair, and I was on the sofa.  It was an afternoon filled with snoozing gingers around here.  I feel almost rested enough to not kill the kids tomorrow, so that’s good.  I still have dishes to do, though, and cleanup to accomplish in my kitchen.

And now, on to The Producers.  First readthrough is tomorrow night at 7pm.
